We believe that God is out there, and that he wants to have a real relationship with us.

We believe that the Bible introduces us to God. The Bible is God’s inspired Word that is the only true and reliable way to know God and his Salvation.

We believe that there is One God – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe that our Heavenly Father created this universe in perfection, but that sin ruined it. We trust that Jesus Christ is true God, that he came to fix the problem of sin and open the door of heaven to all people. We know that he lived and died for us, that he rose from the dead and that he is still with us today. We understand that the Holy Spirit comes to us through the Gospel in Word and Sacrament to give us new life – spiritual life, and eternal life – the gifts of God’s grace!

We believe that the only way for imperfect human beings like us to live with a perfect God is through Jesus Christ. By faith in Jesus, all our sins are washed away and we have the promise of eternal life while we get to enjoy a new life here. God gives our lives purpose, direction, peace, fulfillment, joy, freedom, understanding and wisdom. We want to share those blessings our Lord gives us with our community and the world. Divine Word has been located in Barrhaven since 1978. We exist to introduce people to our Saviour God and to help them grow closer to Him. We welcome people from all different backgrounds to come and explore God’s Word with us. We embrace the different cultures that God has brought to our community.

Divine Word is for Kids!

We live in a community that is full of children. Jesus once said, “Let the little children come to me!” We believe that is very important , and see the need to serve the children of our neighborhood with something that will be meaningful and uplifting for them. Our Sunday School and Children’s Programs have been very popular with the young families of our community. Every month we have worship services that contain a Message for Kids, which helps them get to know God better.

Divine Word is for People!

It is for teens, singles, young adults, married couples, parents, grandparents, widows, and widowers. We have a number of ministries that would offer you something to be involved in and a way to serve your community. We offer Bible studies available in many different formats and times in order to help you get to know God better. Our Foundations Class is called “God Speaks: A Foundation for an Active, Growing and Thriving Faith” In 16 lessons, you get a very complete picture of God’s will for you and how you can live for Him.

Come on a journey with us and find out why we believe that our most important need in life is having a good relationship with God, with other people, and having meaningful ways to serve. These are REAL needs, because your life is REAL, and you need REAL answers.

Some people stay away from church because they might feel it has no relevance for helping them get through life. Others stay away because they are sure it will only make them feel guilty about themselves. At Divine Word, we want to show you that church is relevant and will offer you a real solution to guilt and real joy in its place.

You will find uplifting, relevant, meaningful services, genuine people who are glad you came, children’s programs your kids will love, and Christ-centered messages that will make a real difference in your life. Wayne Halldorson, our Pastor, wants to help prepare you for God’s purpose in your life. He’s a native Canadian with training in the Liberal Arts, and extensive training in Christian doctrine, Biblical Greek and Hebrew, multi-cultural work, evangelism, homiletics, and counseling. He graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary with a Masters of Divinity in 2002. He’s been serving the family of Divine Word since July of 2002. He, his wife Rachel, son William, and daughter Hosanna are excited to be a part of this community and look forward to meeting you.
